Carol Addassi
Carol Addassi is an American artist and photographer whose work explores the interplay of perception, memory, and imagination. She is honored to have earned First Place, Photographer of the Year, for “Passage” in the 2025 iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS) 18th annual competition. Building on a decade-long career as a photo editor immersed in pictures at The New York Times, she now creates painterly photomontages and imagery which intricately reweave everyday reality into dream-like visual worlds.
Her practice evolved from mastering manual techniques, using everything from 35mm to 4×5 cameras and experimenting with expired and cross-processed film, into creating digital photomontages. Drawn from the tapestry and fragmentation of everyday reality, her work centers on the evocative power of atmosphere. She transforms the urban environment and the wild edges of nature into realms governed by memory and emotion, where the ambiguous space between seeing and feeling merges into an imagined memory, a moment suspended in time.
